The vast and beautiful campus is hardly three hours drive from Cochin and Calicut airports and 40 minutes drive from Coimbatore airport.</p>

We are a part of the Ahalia group, which is renowned for healthcare in the Middle East for over two decades. This new market is not only younger but more health conscious than traditional southern food lovers of the past. The younger crowd loves the taste and satisfaction of traditional southern dishes, but without the heavy feeling afterwards. This results from the heavy ingredients and often the cooking oils contained in traditional soul food recipes.</p>
<p>To adapt to the taste and demands of younger consumers more recipe publishers, dining establishments and manufacturers are cooking lighter. For example, many now include lighter ingredients in their menus and recipes. For example, most have change from cooking with animal fats to peanut, olive, and sesame oils. Less red meat and pork dishes are served in soul food restaurants and more chicken, turkey and cold water fish such as salmon, cod and haddock have been added to the menu.</p>
<p>To flavor the dishes, healthier and lighter sauces is offered along with natural herbs and spices.  Most free soul food recipe websites, cookbooks and restaurants continue to phase out traditional flavorings such as ham hocks, fatback and bacon drippings. <p>Now that more soul food recipes have included the desires and demands of the health conscious crowd, the southern cuisine continues to experience a strong comeback.  New phrases have even emerged to describe this new movement and have spawned a whole new market. Healthy soul food  has come to describe southern cuisine with healthy ingredients, cooking methods or even raw food dining. For example, you&#8217;ll find more green vegetables,  raw fruits and bean dishes included in the menus than ever before.  Of course you&#8217;ll also find all natural herbs and spices as well as citrus marinades to add flavor to chicken, fish or other light and lean meats.</p>

Most cardiovascular surgeons and dietitians agree on the importance of a diet high in fiber and low in fat.  That means a lot of fruits and vegetables and a lower amount of fat can keep you healthy and in the weight range where you would like to be.</p>
<p>&#13;The research that led to the agreement on the importance of a high fiber diet has created an interest in vegetarian diets. Vegetarian diets are not a fad diet though. Those who are on these diets have taken on a new life-style of being vegetarians. And the life-change pays off. Those who live a vegetarian lifestyle have noticeably lower death rates from illnesses and are generally in better shape. </p>

Their diets consist of protein from seeds and beans, plant based fats, and fruits, vegetables and grains.<br />&#13;	Raw vegans &#8211; In addition to taking part in a vegan diet, raw vegans also eat foods in a raw form, meaning these foods come in their natural form and are not treated.  Many parts of a raw vegan diet would be sprouted grains, untreated plant fats, and living as well as fermented foods.<br />&#13;	Lacto-ovo vegetarians &#8211; Not all vegetarians avoid all animal related items. Lacto-ovo vegetarians think consumption of milk and eggs are ok. That is where the name came from dairy &#8211; &#8216;lacto&#8217;, eggs &#8211; &#8216;ovo&#8217;<br />&#13;	Pesco- and pollo-vegetarians &#8211; Some vegetarians still eat some kinds of meats in limited quantities.   Pesco-vegetarians believe in addition to a high in fruits, vegetables and beans diet that adding some fish in is alright.  Pollo-vegetarians believe that some chicken is an acceptable addition to their otherwise completely vegetarian diet.</p>
<p>&#13;So, why does a vegetarian diet work so well to lose weight and keep it off? The answer is simple. Since the majority of the foods that are accepted on a vegetarian diet are very low in calories you can still have large dishes of food without the high caloric intake price. That means you can fill a plate, fill your stomach, and still keep your calorie count low, and help control your appetite, which will lead to weight loss.</p>
<p>&#13;But you can&#8217;t just eat as much as you want on a vegetarian diet. While most of the foods are very low in calories, there are still some that can cause you to keep the pounds on and even add a few here and there.  If your vegetarian diet is filled with items made with coconut oil or other vegetable oils, the fat content in those ingredients can keep you from losing weight.  That&#8217;s why it&#8217;s important to focus on the high-fiber fruit, vegetable and grain items on the vegetarian diet.</p>
<p>&#13;If you have been on the weight loss merry-go-round for too long, or just would like to start a healthier life, a long-term change of your diet may be the answer. With proven positive health effects it is a common sense solution. But even if a full vegetarian lifestyle is not for you, adding more high-fiber foods into your diet can be a big boost to your overall health and send you on the path to weight loss.</p>

<p>The soy bean is a legume related to the pea that has been used in Asia for over 5000 years. Soy is very high in protein and very low in carbohydrates when compared to other beans and these two factors make soy a very healthy option.</p>
<p> Soy itself is very versatile and thousands of food products contain soy oil, soy flour, soy protein etc. The most common foods that are made from soy are Tofu, vegetarian hamburgers and hotdogs and alternative dairy products such as yogurt, cheese, soy milk and infant formula.</p>
<p>Many experts in nutrition argue that eating soy products isn&#8217;t necessarily healthy, but there is no doubt that soy is the meat of the future as it is cheap to produce and not being  an animal product, it does not require refrigeration, vaccines or butchers.</p>
<p>As far as the food industry is concerned, soy makes the cheapest and most versatile product they can possibly sell.</p>
<p> But is soy truly healthy for you?</p>
<p> The soy plant is very delicate due to its sensitivity to heat and pesticides, and mass cultivation of it poses a serious problem to farmers. The problem is that soy has the singular quality of absorbing anything around it, whether it&#8217;s minerals from the earth or toxic pesticides that can then harm consumers.</p>
<p> Because of this, many large soy companies are crossing soy with other legume species and have genetically modified it. This new type of soy is more resistant to heat and pesticides but is no longer a healthy option.</p>
<p> When it comes to buying soy products it is important to look for non GMO (Genetically Modified Organism). Soy is possibly the healthiest legume there is, but replacing too many foods in your diet with soy can create an imbalance that is unhealthy.</p>

Anemia means that the amount of red blood cells or the amount of hemoglobin is lower than the normal. As the output of blood cells is either very less or there has been an increased loss of blood cells which causes the deficiency. Red blood cells are manufactured in the bone marrow with the life expectancy of four months. The concoction to produce red blood cells is iron, vitamin B12 and folic acid and the lack of participation by any of those leads to anemia.</p>
<p>This lack or deficiency of red blood cells makes them work harder and exert more to get the required amount of oxygen around the body. This is a chain reaction, as the blood cells are less the provision of oxygen to the body is less. This makes lungs and heart work harder to get oxygen into the blood and due to which there is difficulty in breathing.  Heavy exercise, climbing stairs, which are some of the very menial jobs which gets the anemic person exhausted. This is very common among in females as during menstruation as well as during pregnancy there is loss of blood which makes women more prone to being anemic. </p>

<p>    * Heavy periods during puberty and pregnancy<br />

    * Bone marrow disorders &#8211; such as cancer<br />
    * Certain drugs &#8211; including alcohol, antibiotics</p>
<p>Symptoms which are very visible in anemic people</p>

    * Racing heart or palpitations<br />

<p>The best way to protect one is to have a very healthy iron rich diet. This diet would ensure the steady manufacture of red blood cells. The diet should have more iron, folic acid as well as vitamin B12. Vegetarians can have vitamin B12 supplements to avoid deficiency. Some of the normal diet taken should be in proportion with high fiber varieties and rich in vitamins and B complex. There should also be inclusion of fruits and leafy vegetables. </p>
<p>Very few tests are required to diagnose whether the person is anemic by getting the blood test done which would signify the number and size of red blood cells. Anemia which is caused by ulcers, tumors has to be treated by the doctor by surgery or the necessary dose of medicines should be taken by the patient. Even though the thought of just weakness may not very challenging, but if this disease is not treated on time there are chances of you suffering from angina or pain while walking, sitting or standing. The body become very weak and is unable to fight even the smallest infections like cold and cough.</p>

<p>Pernicious anaemia is a special form of vitamin B12 malabsorption due to impaired ability of certain cells in the stomach to make intrinsic factor—a substance needed for normal absorption of vitamin B12. By definition, all people with pernicious anaemia are vitamin B12-deficient. They require either vitamin B12 injections or oral supplementation with very high levels (1000 mcg per day) of vitamin B12.  </p>

<p>Several population-based studies across the USA have found that various cancers are less prevalent in people who have high levels of folic acid. These people also consumed high amounts of beta-carotene, vitamin C and fiber. One very large study of 50,000 women found that adequate intakes of folate significantly reduced the risk of breast cancer. </p>

<p>Some prescription medications for inflammatory bowel disease have been found to interfere with the bodies ability to absorb folate (folic acid) and the deficiency has also been linked to male infertility and heart disease. </p>

<p>Foods that offer the most folic acid are dark leafy greens, brewers yeast, beef liver, some seafood, orange juice and milk. Root vegetables and whole grains also provide small amounts. </p>

<p>Side effects from folic acid supplements are rare, though they can occur if the dose exceeds 15000 mcg. Taking any one of the B group of vitamins alone can cause a deficiency in the others, so don’t be part smart. Find out if you really do need it and make sure your health care professional knows you intend to take it. Some prescription medicines like antibiotics and warfarin can react adversely to this supplement, while others like ibuprofen and aspirin can actually cause a deficiency. Methotrexate, used to treat some cancer and rheumatoid arthritis increases the body’s need for folic acid, and its side-effects are greatly reduced by addition of this vitamin without impairing its effectiveness, so if you must take this drug, be sure see your health care professional about adding folic acid to your diet.  </p>
